Cross country skiing

Cross country skiing is one of SSIF’s seasonal sports, offering a small group course focused on personalized coaching and skill development during the winter months. By booking a course, you secure your spot for 6 consecutive sessions, held at the same time and day each week, with the same group and instructor. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your technique, this course is the perfect opportunity to enhance your skiing abilities, with an emphasis on technique, endurance, and building confidence on snowy trails.

We offer three levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced – allowing you to progress at your own pace. Our courses provide a highly engaging and supportive environment, ensuring plenty of opportunities for feedback and improvement.

All course sessions are held outdoors, typically at Gärdets Sportfält or Stockholms Stadion, depending on snow conditions. Each group meets for 6 sessions, with each session lasting 60 minutes. Please note that participants are required to bring their own skis, boots, and poles, as equipment is not provided. For questions regarding equipment, contact [email protected]

Training locations may vary based on weather and snow conditions, with alternate venues like Rudan’s ski facility in Haninge or Täby artificial snow track potentially being used. For sessions at Rudan or Täby, a facility fee of SEK 80 per session is required (not included in the course fee). We will inform participants of the training location well in advance. Changing rooms are available at some venues, but not all, so please arrive dressed in your skiing gear. Our courses are co-ed, welcoming participants of all genders, and are open to adults aged 18 and older.

We offer 3 different levels on our courses:

Level 1

Beginners. This level suits those who have never stood on a pair of skis or those who feel unsure about the technique. We focus on handling the equipment and learn the basic techniques to be able to navigate different situations.

Level 2

This level suits those of you who have skied before and want to develop their technique. The participants learn what technique is right in different situation, practice on finding the balance and making their way energy-efficiently. For level 2, you must be able to ski around the Stadium including the hill without any problems.

Level 3

Level 3 suits those of you who actively Cross Country ski and perhaps want to train for a specific goal. We refine technique, discuss waxing and different surfaces and goes through what is important when skiing longer distances.

SSIF offers cross country skiing courses during specific times of the year, as they are dependent on weather conditions and seasonal availability. When courses are open for registration, you’ll find them listed here. While pre-registration isn’t available, we recommend following our Instagram account, “ssif.nu” for the quickest updates on when course bookings open. Cross country skiing courses are distinct from SSIF’s training cards.
